Fluids, Filters, and More – What You Should Know About Mercedes-Benz Maintenance

Like other manufacturers, Mercedes also recommends performing factory-scheduled maintenance. Mercedes maintenance services are classified into Service A and Service B.

When you purchase a new Mercedes, you should have Service A done at 10,000 miles or one year, whichever comes first. Service B should be done at 20,000 miles or two years, whichever comes first.

After that, Service A and Service B are alternated every year. For example, if you purchased a Mercedes in 2020, Service A would be in 2021, Service B in 2022, and so on for the vehicle’s life.

Benefits of Factory-Recommended Maintenance

We can’t understate the importance of factory-scheduled maintenance. Among its benefits, it can:

  • Lengthen your vehicle’s lifespan
  • Improve your vehicle’s handling and safety on the road
  • Maintain the resale value of your vehicle
  • boost performance and fuel economy
  • Save you money by preventing more expensive repairs

What is Mercedes-Benz Service A?

Service A consists of the following:

  • Oil change and filter change.
  • Check fluid levels and top off as necessary.
  • Check the tires and ensure they have the proper tire pressure.
  • Check the brakes.
  • Reset the maintenance counter.

After the first Service A, the interval is every two years or 20,000 miles, whichever comes first.

What is Mercedes-Benz Service B?

Service B consists of the following:

  • Oil change and oil filter change.
  • Check and top off the fluids.
  • Check the tire pressure and adjust as necessary.
  • Replace the cabin air filter.
  • Check the brakes.
  • Flush and replace the brake fluid.
  • Reset the maintenance counter.

After the first Service B, the interval is every two years or 20,000 miles, whichever comes first.

Other Mercedes Maintenance Tasks

Mercedes doesn’t have a checklist for general maintenance. However, all vehicles benefit from having maintenance other than those listed in Services A and B.

In addition to the two manufacturer-recommended services, you should also have Height Swedish Solutions go through the Mercedes-Benz general maintenance checklist:

  • Spark plugs – replace at 60,000 to 100,000 miles.
  • Engine air filter – check yearly and replace as needed.
  • Serpentine belts – check at each oil change and replace as needed.
  • Timing belt – replace between 50,000 to 60,000 miles.
  • Hoses – check at each oil change and replace as needed.
  • Brakes – check at each oil change and replace as needed.
  • Fuel filter – replace every 30,000 to 50,000 miles.
  • Flush and replace the coolant – replace every three to five years, depending on the condition of the coolant.
  • Flush and replace the power steering fluid – replace it every five years.
  • Flush and replace the transmission fluid and replace the transmission filter – flush and replace every 60,000 miles.
  • CV axle maintenance – check every oil change.
